A dress designed from your own idea
If you want a dress made from scratch, from your own photo, sketch or idea, it is quoted individually, from about US$1,000 depending on the design. Our tailors send you a free, no-obligation quote before anything is made, and the quote confirms how long your dress will take. You can pay for your design in full or in 3 interest-free monthly installments, or reserve it now and send your measurements later. Design your own wedding dress or browse our custom wedding dresses.
Made to measure, off the rack or bespoke?
Off the rack, then altered
You buy a standard size from a salon and pay a seamstress to fit it. Alterations are extra, commonly several hundred dollars, and the dress still starts from a standard pattern.
Made to measure (what we do)
An existing design is cut to your measurements: $570 to $4,850 at Devotion Dresses, made in 8–12 weeks for most gowns (10–14 or 12–16 weeks for some), with your measurements taken at home using our guide.
Bespoke
A one-off design created from nothing, usually with several in-person fittings. It is normally the slowest and most expensive route. At Devotion Dresses, a design from your own idea is quoted individually, from about US$1,000 depending on the design.

Where the money goes
The fabric
Couture fabrics such as silk Mikado, corded lace and layered tulle cost far more than the polyester blends of fast-fashion bridal. A heavily beaded or lace-appliquéd gown uses more material, and more expensive material, which is the biggest reason prices differ between designs. Learn more in our fabric guide.
The hand work
Each gown is cut and sewn by tailors. Hand-applied lace, boning, corsetry, covered buttons and hand-finished hems take hours of skilled work, which is why a structured, beaded ball gown costs more than a clean sheath.
The fit
An off-the-rack gown is made in a standard size and then altered. A made-to-measure gown is built around your 21 measurements from the start and delivered within 2.5 cm (1 in) of them, so the fit is planned in rather than added afterwards; a small local adjustment may still be needed.
How to pay
You can pay for a catalogue gown, or for a design made from your own idea, in full or in 3 interest-free monthly installments; your dress ships once the last installment is paid. Not ready to measure yet? Reserve first, measure later: place your order now and send your measurements later (within 30 days for a catalogue gown).
How to get the most from your budget
- Set a ceiling first, then browse by price, for example our wedding dresses under $1,000 or under $2,000.
- Choose a cleaner silhouette if your budget is tight. Less beading and simpler fabric lower the price without losing elegance: a sheath or simple A-line is timeless.
- Prioritise fabric over embellishment. A beautiful fabric in a simple cut often looks more expensive than a busy gown.
- Order early. Production takes 8–12 weeks for most gowns and 10–14 or 12–16 weeks for some; each gown's page shows its time. Delivery then takes 1–2 weeks, so leave time for any final adjustments before the wedding (see our ordering timeline).
Frequently asked questions
How much does a custom wedding dress cost?
At Devotion Dresses, a gown made to your measurements costs $570 to $4,850, with a median of $2,150 (catalogue prices on 3 October 2026). A design made from your own photo or idea is quoted individually, from about US$1,000 depending on the design. The table above shows what two other custom makers publish.
How much does it cost to get a wedding dress made?
Having one of our designs made to your 21 measurements costs its list price, the same as a standard size: from $570 to $4,850. Optional upgrades such as long sleeves or a longer train show their price on the gown's page. Delivery is free on Premium gowns, $79 on Prestige and $99 on Value gowns.
Is custom more expensive than off the rack?
Not necessarily. An off-the-rack gown is bought in a standard size and then altered, and alterations commonly add several hundred dollars. Our made-to-measure gowns cost the same as a standard size, and their price already includes cutting the gown to your measurements. A one-off bespoke design is usually the most expensive route.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes, for catalogue gowns and for designs made from your own idea: pay in full or in 3 interest-free monthly installments, and your gown ships once the last one is paid. You can also reserve now and send your measurements later. For the lowest prices, browse our wedding dresses under $1,000.
How long does it take?
Production takes 8–12 weeks for most gowns and 10–14 or 12–16 weeks for some; each gown's page shows its time. Delivery then takes 1–2 weeks. Order 4–6 months before your wedding. If your date is sooner, ask us before you order and a consultant will check whether your gown can arrive in time. For a design from your own idea, the quote confirms the time.
The bottom line
A made-to-measure gown from Devotion Dresses costs $570 to $4,850, most often around $2,150, and the price you see covers a dress made for your body alone.
