How Made-to-Measure Works: 21 Measurements, Fit and Timeline
Made to measure means your wedding dress is constructed from scratch using your own body measurements rather than altered from a standard size. Devotion Dresses works from 21 body measurements, has each one checked by our production team before cutting, and handcrafts your gown: most gowns take 8–12 weeks to make, some 10–14 or 12–16 weeks (each gown's page shows its time), then 1–2 weeks of delivery.
Crafted to fit your body, not an industry standard. 21 body measurements, each checked by our production team before cutting.
What Is Made to Measure?
Made-to-measure means your dress is constructed from scratch using your body measurements — not altered from a standard size. It is cut to your body and delivered within 2.5 cm (1 in) of your measurements, avoiding the common frustrations of off-the-rack sizing: gaping bodices, uneven hemlines, or poorly proportioned shoulders.
Unlike alterations — which work backwards from a pre-made garment — made-to-measure begins with your body as the blueprint. Every seam, dart, and panel is positioned precisely where your figure needs it, creating a silhouette that moves naturally and feels effortless from the moment you put it on.

Why Made to Measure Matters
Mass-produced dresses are cut to fit a statistical average. Made-to-measure dresses are cut for you. This distinction shows in every line — how the bodice sits without gaping, how the waistline hits at your natural waist (not a size chart's estimate), how the skirt falls from your hips with balanced proportions.
When your dress is made to measure, every photograph captures the silhouette as it was designed to be seen. No bunching, no pinning, no heavy alterations that compromise the original design intent.

Made to Measure Wedding Dresses — FAQs
How accurate does made-to-measure need to be?
Precision matters. Our guide walks you through 21 measurements with video tutorials. Each measurement is verified by our production team before cutting begins.
What if my measurements change before delivery?
You take your 21 measurements when you order. Most gowns take 8–12 weeks to make, some 10–14 or 12–16 weeks (each gown's page shows its time), then 1–2 weeks of DHL/UPS delivery. Our production team checks every measurement before cutting begins and contacts you if anything looks unusual. If your body changes significantly, we offer modification guidance to ensure your dress still fits beautifully.
Is made-to-measure more expensive than off-the-rack?
Not necessarily. While the dress itself may cost similarly, you avoid the several hundred dollars of alterations that off-the-rack dresses typically require. Made-to-measure often works out more cost-effective overall.
Can I combine made-to-measure with design customisation?
Yes — this is what makes Devotion unique. Every made-to-measure dress can also be customised in terms of neckline, sleeves, fabric, train length, and embellishments.
How long does a made-to-measure wedding dress take?
Most gowns take 8–12 weeks to make from measurement confirmation, some 10–14 or 12–16 weeks (each gown's page shows its time), then 1–2 weeks of DHL/UPS delivery. We recommend ordering 4–6 months before your wedding.
