Length, trains and proportion
The first thing a tall bride notices off the rack is length: a hem that stops short of the floor, a waist that sits too high, sleeves that end above the wrist. Made to measure, the gown is cut from your height, your waist-to-floor length and your sleeve length, with the heel height you enter in the form, so length is planned rather than let down afterwards. Measure your height without shoes; the heel height is added separately.
Every gown on this page pairs a long silhouette with a long train: a mermaid, trumpet, ball gown or sheath, finished with a court, chapel or cathedral train. These are the shapes stylists often suggest for a tall bride, because height carries both the long fitted line of a mermaid and the volume of a ball gown, and a long train stays in proportion. Chapel and cathedral trains come first, then ball gowns and sheaths.
Most of these gowns have a court train, which extends a short way behind you; a few have a chapel or cathedral train, which is longer and more formal. A few gowns list a longer train as a paid option. Before you order, ask us by chat, email or WhatsApp how a train can be bustled or carried once the ceremony is over.
Bodice length, sleeves and waistline
A tall bride's torso is often longer as well, and a ready-made bodice then ends above the natural waist. Here the bodice is cut from your front and back corset heights and your waist position, so the waist seam meets your waist. A few gowns have a basque waistline, which dips below the natural waist into a point and lengthens the bodice further.
About a third of these gowns have long sleeves, cut to your sleeve length, arm girth and wrist girth. About two thirds have a corset bodice and nearly all list a built-in bra. Each gown is delivered within 2.5 cm (1 in) of your measurements. The time to make it is on its page, 8–12 weeks for most of our gowns and 10–14 or 12–16 for some, and delivery adds 1–2 weeks.
What wedding dress styles suit tall brides?
Most styles do, so the choice is yours. Mermaid gowns and ball gowns with a long train are the shapes stylists often suggest, because a tall frame carries their length and volume easily.
Will the dress be long enough for me?
It is cut to your length: your height, waist-to-floor length and heel height are part of the order, and the gown is delivered within 2.5 cm (1 in) of the measurements you give. Measure without shoes and enter your heel height in the form.
Court, chapel or cathedral train: which should I choose?
A court train is the shortest of the three and the easiest to manage; a chapel train is longer; a cathedral train is the longest and most formal. Each gown's details name its train, and a few gowns list a longer one as a paid option.
Will the sleeves reach my wrists?
Long sleeves are cut from your sleeve length, arm girth and wrist girth, so they are made for your arms rather than a standard length. A few gowns list sleeves as a paid option; for any other gown, ask us by chat, email or WhatsApp.
